HDB: Family Home Filled with Warmth and Feminity

This project was an exciting challenge! We started with a very old HDB flat in its original condition, so a full gut renovation was on the cards. One of the standout moments? The kitchen space planning. We rethought the entire layout—changing the kitchen entrance and slimming it slightly, which gave us room to create a spacious “mud room” style entrance, complete with tons of storage. We even used cool outdoor-like flooring to define the space and create a smooth transition between the outdoor and indoor areas.

The entrance area itself is a story! Our client purchased the recess area from HDB, allowing us to design a larger, more inviting entryway that used to be partially outside of the unit. Now, it feels like a grand welcome into the home, bridging the indoor-outdoor vibe beautifully.

One fun element from our client’s brief was adding windows in the playroom that look directly into the dining area. This was a must from day one, bringing in a sense of openness and connection for the family.

As for the design? A unique blend of classic and contemporary. We combined timeless shaker-style cabinetry and bold black-and-white floor tiles with softer, feminine tones. Think warm, natural materials like rattan and grasscloth—bringing an organic, rustic touch to the space. The result? A home that feels both classic and cosy, with layers of texture and personality.
